Incorporating the former President's House, the center serves as an alumni gathering spot and a "home away from home" for alumni. Located in central campus near Old Main, the site selection of the center reflects the Association's goal to be an integral part of the campus community. In addition, the center gives the Penn State Alumni Association space in a single location to house its staff and to hold activities and functions.
The center's architects, Purdy O'Gwynn Barnhart Architects, Inc., designed a structure that blends in with its current surroundings. In the words of the architects"The building that honors returning alumni should express this duality: respect for tradition and engagement in the future." The architects received a 2001 "Award of Recognition" from AIA for the design of the center. Welcome home... In addition to the standard hours, the center will also be open on special event weekends such as Thon, commencement, major sporting events, etc. from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, and 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Sunday.
