City Lights

In cooperation with Penn State’s colleges and local alumni groups, the Penn State Alumni Association is hostingCity Lights 2007 a series of City Lights cultural events this spring. From a world-renowned Egyptologist to a finance expert to rising musicians, some of Penn State’s faculty and student stars will hit the road in early 2007 to present educational and entertaining programs for alumni and friends as part of the  City Lights program.

All City Lights events require pre-registration and most have minimal fees, with discounted fees for Alumni Association members and their guests. For more information, call 800-548-LION (5466), option 5, option 1.

Penn State President’s Concert hosted by President Graham Spanier will feature a pre-concert reception highlighting the evening’s program and performances by the School of Music’s Symphonic Wind Ensemble, Concert Choir, Centre Dimensions jazz ensemble, and Philharmonic Orchestra. Pittsburgh—Carnegie Science Center

Penn State stars in a Buhl Planetarium event at the Carnegie Science Center. Dr. Dan Larson, dean of the Eberly College of Science, and faculty members from Penn State’s top-ranked astronomy department will present an eye-popping evening filled with latest research (in layman’s terms) on black holes, quasars, the search for extra-solar planets, the Swift satellite, and the latest discoveries from special telescopes. Penn State Night at the Pittsburgh Symphony will feature a pre-concert “Penn State Insiders” program and special reception. Part of the Mellon Grand Classics series, the symphony will perform Gershwin’s An American in Paris conducted by Principal Guest Conductor Yan Pascal Tortelier. The performance will include everything from jazz to taxi horns for a unique American take on the “City of Light.” Register here. Family Day for Penn Staters of all ages at the world’s premier horticultural display. Learn fun facts about Penn State’s own Arboretum while enjoying magnificent fountains, spectacular displays, 40 outdoor and indoor gardens (including a children’s garden) and four acres of conservatories. Enjoy a box lunch with Penn Staters before participating in walks, tours, and activities hosted by Penn State College of Agricultural Sciences faculty and expert alumni.
