Calendar: An Evening With Joe Paterno (June 7, 2004)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The legendary head coach of the Nittany Lions will share with us the insights that have enabled him to attain excellence in the athletic arena, while maintaining the highest standards of institutional integrity. The Penn State Alumni Association and the Nittany Lion Club are proud to sponsor this very special event. There will be a question and answer period following the presentation. Hors d'oeuvres and a cash bar will be provided.
More than 700 head coaching changes have been made in Division I-A since Joe Paterno became Penn State’s head football coach in 1966. During his monumentally successful coaching career, he has directed Penn State football teams to two National Championships and five undefeated, untied seasons. No other coach in college football history has had more bowl game victories. During the 2001 season, he tied and then broke the two-decade-old record for most wins in Division I-A with an exciting 324th win over Ohio State. In the three decades since he took over as head coach of the Nittany Lion football team, Paterno has successfully promoted professionalism on and off the field. He has set high standards for academic performance and social maturity that carry over beyond the classroom. Joe Paterno’s list of successes includes much more than his win-loss record. He is an inspiration to his peers in the sport, players, and fans of all ages.
