Join the Penn State Alumni Association in celebrating the 38th Annual Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts™. Arts Festival Alumni Weekend is your opportunity to relive your college years by staying on-campus in the residence halls. This annual event is ideal for the young, old, and all ages in between, who love visual and performing arts. The festival includes the nationally recognized Sidewalk Sale & Exhibition, Children and Youth Day, and theatrical performances. Musical groups will thrill audiences with folk, rock, pop, blues, jazz, country, and bluegrass selections, in addition to dance, ballet, sand sculpting, and Italian street painting.

Opening day of children’s workshops, children and youth sidewalk sale, arts activities, the Centre Daily Times Grand Procession, an Exygen Research Sand Sculpture at Central Parklet, and the opening of Architect-of-Air’s Luminarium for youth and the young at heart.

Bring your blanket and listen to the rhythm and soul of The Persuasions—perhaps the single most important a cappella group of our generation. The Persuasions have been performing since the early ’60s, when they worked the street corners of Brooklyn. The Persuasions have been touring and performing solidly for the past 40 years and have sung their way around the world performing with Frank Zappa, Stevie Wonder, Bette Midler, and Paul Simon. They also have been featured on a Spike Lee PBS special on singing, and are truly the “Godfathers of a cappella.”

SPECIAL EVENTS (top)
Hintz Family Alumni Center Open House

Stop by the Alumni Center to tour the facility, visit with fellow alumni, or just take a break from the festival. Arts Festival Open House hours are weekdays, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

AfterFest
Don’t miss the fourth annual alcohol-free concert event coordinated by the Blue & White Society, the student members of the Alumni Association. The goal of AfterFest is to provide a safe venue for students, alumni, and community members to socialize after Arts Festival. AfterFest will be held on Saturday, July 10, from 11:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. on the HUB Lawn.

Sesquicentennial Kick-off
Penn State’s Sesquicentennial Celebration Kick-off Event will be held in Schwab Auditorium on Thursday, July 8, 2004, at 4:00 p.m.

AstroFest 2004
Stargaze through rooftop telescopes and be amazed by a wide array of astronomy demonstrations, talks, and activities for all ages. Enjoy Planetarium shows, and astronomy quizzes with prizes. Make your own comet activities and see the rainbow demonstrations. AstroFest is free to the public and hosted by the Astronomy and Astrophysics Department. This exciting indoor program will be held each night, rain or shine, Wednesday, July 7, through Saturday, July 10, from 8:30 to 11:30 p.m., on the fifth floor and roof of Davey Laboratory.

Lift for Life
Come support the Nittany Lions in the battle against kidney cancer at the Lift for Life event on July 8 in Holuba Hall from 2:00 to 9:00 p.m. Founded by current Penn State football teammates to bring attention to an underrepresented cause with a personal meaning to current players, Lift for Life is a non-profit organization that aims to help raise money and promote awareness for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of kidney cancer. Lift for Life helped to raise more than $13,000 for kidney cancer last year. For more information, please visit www.psuliftforlife.org.

Tickets to the Lift for Life event on July 8 in Holuba Hall are $10 per person or $25 per family.


LODGING (top)
Residence Hall Lodging
Residence hall accommodations are offered to registered guests of the Alumni Association’s Arts Festival Alumni Weekend only. Space is limited and residence hall rooms will be assigned on a first-come, first-serve basis by the postmark date of the registration form. On-campus housing is available in the West Halls area of campus for the evenings of July 7-10, 2004. For safety reasons, there is a maximum of two adults and one child under 10 per room. Additional rooms can be reserved for families of more than three. Rates include a daily breakfast in West Halls upper quad. To beat the summer heat, fans can be rented at check-in for $2 per night. A one-night nonrefundable residence hall fee per room is required. Cancellation requests must be made no later than Wednesday, June 23, 2004, to avoid a one-night deposit charge.
