FastStart:
Information for Alumni
-------------------------------------------------
Alumni
play a special role in the lives of students. An introductory call to
answer questions about moving in, choosing a major or career, or becoming
involved in campus activities would be welcomed by students and parents.
After the student arrives, communication can take place through an occasional
phone call to ask how things are going, a couple of letters or cards offering
encouragement, perhaps an e-mail message, or a personal visit if you happen
to be in town—and maybe even a bite to eat at a local restaurant!
Alumni can
provide advice on careers and graduate school, leads for internships and
summer jobs, and networking opportunities. But the most valuable gift
they have to give is the experience of having gone through similar experiences and
being able to say, "I made it. So can you!"
Please
help!
Asian and Asian Pacific American alumni needed to mentor freshmen.
While Asian and Asian Pacific Americans are the second largest group of
students served through the FastStart program, we currently have very
few Asian and Asian Pacific American alumni involved as mentors. Your
involvement can make a lasting impression on a young Penn Stater!
Please
help! Computer, kinesiology, medical and business professionals
needed.
Increasing numbers of FastStart students are pursuing careers in computers,
kinesiology, medicine and business. If you have experience or expertise
in these fields, your help can turn a student's aspirations into reality.
