National Service Week
---------------------------------

The goal of National Service Week is to encourage Penn State alumni and friends across the United States to take part in service programs that will positively impact their local communities.

In May 1995, the Penn State Alumni Association became the first alumni association to undertake a weeklong nationwide community service initiative. National Service Week 2003 will be held on March 7-16 (Spring Break).

Sample National Service Week Projects include:

  • Providing baby-sitting, transportation, and meal services at their local Red Cross homeless shelter.
  • Working the phone banks during the Children’s Miracle Network Telethon.
  • Hosting 79 “at-risk” kids at the zoo.
  • Assisting in development of a new community park/playground.

To see more samples of National Service week projects, read the National Service Week 2003 Handbook (PDF Format 615 K).

Please let us know about your project. The National Service Week Final Report form is available online.
