Council: Lewis H. Gold ’59 Lib
Lewis H. Gold ’59 Lib became the 74th president of the Penn State Alumni Association on July 1, 2005 after a long affiliation with Penn State and the Alumni Association. Gold moved into the president’s role after serving two years as the Association’s vice president and serving since 1995 on Alumni Council, the Alumni Association’s governing body. He has chaired several committees within the Alumni Association, including the “Margin of Excellence” Committee, Bylaws Adhoc Committee, and Volunteer Support Committee. In addition to his work with the Alumni Association, Gold is active in the College of the Liberal Arts, serving as past president and current board member of the Liberal Arts Alumni Society and the vice chair of the College’s Richards Civil War Era Center. In 2000, Gold was honored with the College of the Liberal Arts Alumni Society’s “Service to Penn State Award.” A shareholder and president of Adelman Lavine Gold and Levin in Philadelphia, Gold’s areas of practice include corporate and business law, commercial litigation, and bankruptcy. He has been with the firm since 1966, after serving as an attorney with the U.S. Department of Justice in the Attorney General’s Honors Program. Gold received his law degree from Villanova University School of Law in 1962, where he was managing editor of the Villanova Law Review. In both 2004 and 2005, Gold was cited as one of Pennsylvania’s Super Lawyers in Philadelphia Magazine. In addition to his many Penn State volunteer posts, Gold is active in the Philadelphia community. He has volunteered for many years and served on the board of directors of the Abramson Center for Jewish Life (formerly the Philadelphia Geriatric Center), Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, and Settlement Music School in Philadelphia. Gold lives in Jenkintown, Pa., with his wife, Karen. They have two grown daughters: Sara, a lawyer in Washington, D.C.; and Judith, a 1995 Penn State graduate who is a development officer at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. Gold’s term as president of the Penn State Alumni Association runs through June 30, 2007. |
