The Football Letter
The Penn State Alumni Association’s Football Letter is the oldest continually–produced publication of its kind. Since Ridge Riley ’32 originated The Football Letter in 1938, Penn Staters have enjoyed receiving first–hand alum–to–alum accounts of each Nittany Lion football game.
Over the years, The Football Letter morphed from a mimeographed sheet to a two–sided printed page with limited photos to a six–sided foldout with game–action photos. In the early days, members were happy to receive their Football Letters in the mail about five days after the game. Today, members receive The Football Letter in their e–mail inboxes on Mondays—complete with numerous color photos from award-winning photographer Steve Manuel ’84 and a link to a slideshow with dozens of game–day action shots of your favorite Nittany Lions.
Written by John Black ’62 since 1976, The Football Letter is a benefit of membership in the Alumni Association. Join or renew your membership here.
