Encounter the natural beauty and unique species of the world-famous Galapagos Islands on this 10-day adventure. The incomparable plants and animals of these islands, located off the coast of Ecuador, inspired Charles Darwin’s theory of natural selection and evolution as outlined in his 1859 book, On The Origin of Species. Set sail for seven nights on the M.V. Santa Cruz for an up close look at primeval giant tortoises, blue-footed boobies, sea lions, penguins, iguanas, and more.

Faculty host and anthropology Professor Dean Snow has taught and conducted research in North American and Mesoamerican archaeology for more than 40 years. He is interested in both biological and cultural evolution and is an avid bird watcher in his free time.

Trip Highlights:

  • Visiting the moon-like landscapes of La Cumbre Volcano on Fernandina Island;
  • Snorkeling in the waters off Punta Vicente Roca;
  • Exploring the lush highlands of Santa Cruz island with its unique vegetation and bird species;
  • Optional pre-program stay in the Ecuadorean capital of Quito.
