Welcome to the Virtual Ambassador, a virtual tour of Penn State's University Park campus. The tour has been done by the Penn State Alumni Association with the help of the Lion Ambassadors. This tour will take about 20-30 minutes to view on a 28.8 modem. This tour takes advantage of QuickTimeVR movies, which require the QuickTime movie player and plug-in from Apple Computer. You can get the free plug-in for your browser from the QuickTime site. It also uses animated GIFs and client-side imagemaps. For optimal viewing of this tour, we recommend you use either Netscape Navigator 3.0.1 or Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.0 or later. (Tip: after installing QuickTime, make sure the plug-in is located in your browsers plug-ins folder.)

To the left here, you see six icons: a shield, the QuickTime logo, Behind
the Scenes, cameos, perspectives, and a map. When you see these icons on
the tour, it means that there is additional optional stuff that you can
see. This is where the real fun stuff is!

The shield links to any historical markers that are near your current location on the tour. You can learn more about the historical markers at University Park in our VR... Penn State section.

The QuickTimeVR logo means that we have done a virtual reality movie of the area. To view it, select the QuickTimeVR logo. If youve downloaded and installed the QuickTime player and plug-in properly, you will see the QuickTime logo appear while the movie downloads. Once it is downloaded, you simply put your cursor inside the image area and drag it. This will pan the movie for you to see a 360-degree view of this site. To view all 29 of the QuickTimeVR movies, you can also access them in our VR ... Penn State section.

Behind-the-Scenes is especially cool. We will be adding these features along the tour for quite some time. We will go behind-the-scenes to give you sights, sounds, and stories that you would probably never have an opportunity to experience. See how the Creamery makes ice cream, how the floors are moved around at the Jordan Center, what happens behind the scenes at Eisenhower Auditorium before a production, and more. We have lots of ideas. If its not here yet, it will be so be sure to stop back!
| |
Cameos are special visits from local Penn State celebrities. Here, you'll get some fascinating insider information from people like President Spanier, Coach Paterno, John Black, Mike the Mailman, and more. The cameos section is still under construction; more cameos will be added at a later date.
| |
Perspectives are personal anecdotes gathered mostly from Lion Ambassadors. We also hope to add some interesting information from past alumni, future alumni, and parents later.
